Diocese of Gizo Teachers Commemorate Teachers Day

 TD1 TD2

Teachers from our diocese celebrated World Teachers Day on October 4th this year, joining the nation and the globe to commemorate the day.

They had their own style of organizing with fellow teachers and students, likewise in St. Peter Urban Training Center Gizo.

An annual global celebration has continued since 1994, when UNESCO introduced it to recognize the pivotal role of teachers.

The day also commemorated the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers, which set international standards for teachers’ rights, professional development, and working conditions.

The recommendation was made to ensure that educators have access to the tools and assistance they need to do their jobs well.

And it is commemorated on October 5 every year to honor educators' significant influence on our lives.

They mentor us through important life stages, imparting knowledge and raising responsible citizens; they are frequently referred to as second parents.

This day honors their commitment and labor in forming society on a global scale.
